June Marie Sommers, 92, of Des Plaines, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on June 5, 1932, in Lawler, Iowa, to Olivia and James Ralph, June led a life marked by compassion and dedication. She was the beloved wife of nearly 60 years to the late Gerald Sommers. She was also preceded in death by her cherished sister, Laverne.

June was the devoted mother of Kathy Froelich, Maureen (Herb) McNeil, Doreen (Michael) Burton, and Jerry (Julie) Sommers. She took immense pride in her role as grandmother to 18 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 22 great-grandchildren. She was also a loving aunt and a dear friend to many.

A registered nurse for many years at Resurrection Medical Center, June served with warmth and professionalism. Her influence extended beyond her patients—she was a mentor and role model, including to all three of her daughters who followed in her footsteps.

June found joy in traveling, bowling, fishing, and spending time with her family. A dedicated parishioner of her church, she lived her faith through service and community.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Stephen the Protomartyr Catholic Church, 1280 Prospect Ave., Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of a wake, the family welcomes those wishing to pay their respects to join them at 11:30 before the funeral service for a time of remembrance and reflection.

June’s legacy of love and care lives on in those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace.
