Princess Sampson Obituary

Princess Sampson, 89, a devoted mother and pillar of her faith in Jesus peacefully passed away on February 14, 2025. Born on February 6, 1936, in Panther, West Virginia, Princess’ unwavering faith guided her life and instilled it in her children.

As a mother of 6 children, grandmother of 16, and great grandmother of 21, she felt she would complete her family by marrying the love of her life Ken Sampson and add stepmother of 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

While working at Fel-Pro for 25+ years, she led by example as a flannel graph Sunday school teacher, Ray Graham class helper and care giver to her family and close friend. She collected clothes for Ray Graham residents and sewed a multitude of blankets for her family and their pets. She hemmed pants and repaired clothes for countless people and repaired an heirloom quilt for her stepdaughter. She had the famous easter egg hunt every year for her grandchildren until they were grown. She had a tremendous love of flowers of all kinds.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Ken Sampson, her children Harvey Adkins (Judith), Cathy Maple, Connie Smith (Al), Anthony Adkins (Gigi), Vanessa Atkinson (Mike) and Cindy Adkins and their families. Stepchildren Patty Maher (Dave) and their families. Preceded in death by her father, mother, 4 sisters and 2 brothers, her late husband Aldean Adkins of 28 years, stepdaughter Peggy Sampson, Stepson Andy Sampson and grandson Clint Smith.  She instilled the love of music in her children and loved hymns and southern gospel.

A celebration of Princess Sampson’s life and faith will be held on February 24th at Messiah Baptist Church. In honor of Princess' love for hymns, chorus and gospel music the service will include her favorite worship songs.
